Home Art Therapy and Therapeutic Scrapbooking (Thesis) Thesis Abstract

Many sources report that working on scrapbooks can be a therapeutic experience but few art therapists utilize this technique. The author researched the connection between art therapy and therapeutic scrapbooking with the aim of understanding the place of such work within the art therapy practice. The paper explores specific types of interventions that incorporate therapeutic scrapbooking while working with various populations such as the elderly clients, abuse survivors, and cancer patients. The paper also discusses therapeutic issues that may arise while using scrapbooking. The paper concludes that, given the popularity of scrapbooking, it could be a benefit to therapy as it is already a very familiar medium for many people. The paper recommends that therapeutic scrapbooking be regarded as a specialized form of art therapy and that it merits further research and discussion within the practice.
